James Hughes' Kindling Pile

Shoulder-Mounted Guiding Laser
This was a final project for my second Electronics Systems course in college at UMD. Taking inspiration from a recent Star Wars TV show I had seen, I wanted to make an auto-stabilizing shoulder-mounted laser. Utilizing an Arduino board, Processing 4, a servo, a gyroscope, and a backpack to hold it all together, I created this device to demonstrate my understanding of the course learning objectives.
The backpack itself has a chest-mounted adjustment dial to help zero or offset the laser dependent on how the shoulder strap is worn. With onboard battery capacity, this device is totally portable. Lastly, Processing provides a visual output for troubleshooting and active angle tracking for the servo itself. Above is a demo video showcasing the explained features of the device.
